While this project itself is does not present any kind of technological breakthrough, I think its substance is greatly needed at this time in history.
Elda Smart is first and foremost a database of the thrifty meals I have been cooking all my life. As this economy forces us all to tighten our belts, more friends, colleagues and acquaintances have come to me, asking how I make lentils taste so good. I built this website 1. to try out AI-assisted development and 2. to store all of my recipes in one accessible space to be shared with the wider world.
Each recipe exists in 3 (or 4, if it can be made vegan) price ranges: low, organic and high. This allows users to compare the costs of the different ingredients and make the best choices for them.
The site is available in English, Icelandic, Polish and Spanish.
Of course, I couldn't resist hooking this up to the Krónan API to work out exactly how much every meal costs and how that price has evolved over time (or at least, since the website launched in May 2026). Nutritional information is also included.
A straightforward account system allows you to save your favourite recipes and rate them. There is scope for partnerships and offers, which is something we have only just started exploring.
The project is still in development so expect some quirks, particularly in regard to the nutritional and cost calculations.
