This project maps where Icelandic government agencies (and later media, political parties, banking system, etc.) host their core digital infrastructure, email, websites, and DNS, in order to understand dependencies in the public sector’s digital stack.
Inspired by Proton’s Europe Tech Watch, which used DNS analysis to identify email providers among European companies, this project applies the same technical approach to Icelandic public institutions. It expands the scope to include website hosting and DNS infrastructure, offering a more complete picture of operational reliance on foreign services.
Using publicly available DNS data (MX, SPF, A, and NS records), the project reveals which vendors and jurisdictions underpin everyday government operations.
